Pregnancy
Advice
If you are pregnant you will
need to get advice and support as soon as possible. This can be
a very difficult time and you will need to make some important
decisions.
Contraception
Clinics
Often referred
to as Family Planning Clinics they provide advice on contraception
and can provide access to free condoms, the pill (oral contraception)
and other methods - also emergency contraception (morning after
pill - see pregnancy advice section).
STIs/GUM
Clinics
If
you are at risk of pregnancy - then you're also at risk of contracting
a sexually transmitted infection.
Young
Person's Clinics
Some
Family Planning Clinics are set up especially for young people
- they are generally at times which are thought to be more convenient
for young people and they may be more informal than the normal
clinics. They are usually for people aged up to 25.
Sex
and Relationships
Sex
is often a difficult subject to talk about seriously and most
young people have many questions and concerns. There are a large
number of websites with useful information about relationships,
including details of helplines you can contact and booklets available
free of charge.
Becoming
a Parent
If
you are pregnant there are loads of things you will need to think
about
.the health concerns are dealt with elsewhere - but
you also need to know about any benefits you are entitled to -
and you may want to consider how you will return to education
or training after you have had your baby.
SureStart
Plus
SureStart
Plus has been set up in some parts of the country to help young
people. In the Tees area there are SURESTART
PLUS ADVISERS or TEENAGE
PREGNANCY ADVISERS who can offer
free, confidential and non-judgemental advice and support to help
young people make decisions about their future.
