| Sex
is often a difficult subject to talk about seriously and most young
people have many questions and concerns. There are a large number
of websites with useful information about relationships, including
details of helplines you can contact and booklets available free
of charge.
It
is difficult to recommend a single information source as the questions
you have will be different and the ways you like to receive information
will vary. Some people prefer a telephone helpline, others a book
you can refer to, others a website with quizzes and questionnaires,
others more straightforward information. The following sources
all offer information about sex and relationships - you need to
choose the one that suits you:
Helplines:
Sexwise (0800 28 29 30) is a free confidential advice line on
sex, relationships and contraception for young people aged 18
or under. It's open from 7.00am to midnight every day (7 days
a week). The phones are answered by professional advisers who
are experienced in working with young people - they are friendly
and helpful and wont ask who you are - you don't have to give
your name and address.
Websites:
www.ruthinking.co.uk
is a website for young people which offers factual information,
links to other sites, local help and updates. It's aimed at people
under 18 and offers 'information on anything to do with sex, relationships
or contraception'.
www.playingsafely.co.uk
for 16 - 24 year olds, offers straightforward advice on safer
sex, HIV, and other sexual infections.
www.likeitis.org.uk
has an extensive section on relationships - it's run by the Marie
Stopes International.
Most
of the sites will link with each other and will link you to other
sites on similar topics.
If
you prefer information in a written format there are a number
of leaflets and books available for example a leaflet produced
by AVERT called Sex and Sexual Relationships which is available
from AVERT, 4 Brighton Road, Horsham, West Sussex RH13 5BA Tel:
